Reid Berrien

Reid Berrien grew up in Westport, Connecticut, and graduated from Middlebury College in 2008 where she played varsity field hockey and lacrosse and majored in Psychology. Reid is a veteran Overland leader returning for her fourth summer to lead Field Studies: Tanzania in 2010. Her past leadership includes New England Explorer in 2007, Yellowstone Teton Explorer in 2008, and European Explorer in 2009. In her free time, Reid likes to be outdoors, play sports, cycle and occasionally needlepoint. Reid currently is an assistant field hockey and lacrosse coach at Middlebury. Reid writes: "Overland has the power to bring together 14 unique individuals who by the end of their trip have formed a bond and understanding of one another. It's amazing to watch your group of kids grow over the duration of the trip into self-confident, motivated, young adults who genuinely care about the other members of the group. The amount of laughter and fun that I've had with each of my groups is unlike anything I ever thought I'd experience. When you reach the last night of your trip, and the 12 complete strangers that you met on the first day, have all come together and are now crying over the thought of leaving each other...that's the best feeling in the world."

Elite Leaders

Overland leaders are students and recent alumni from top colleges and universities, including many schools in the Ivy League and NESCAC as well as other elite schools across the country. Overland leaders are campus leaders, varsity athletes, sports captains, peer counselors, outdoor guides, and honors students. All leaders are First Aid, CPR, and lifeguard certified.

Overland is not a teen tour or a summer camp, our trips and programs are carefully crafted and designed to challenge our students, who are always in small groups with superlative leadership.
